To my recollection, Alfred was the first classmate we lost. It was sometime in the 1960s, a car accident. He went to Lincoln school with us in the elementary grades. I remember when he got a new bike, red and white, and it had one of those new metal gastank panels fastened into the frame, in front of the seat. Seems like it was a traditional heavy bike, just before the popularity of 3-speed and 10-speed racers caught on.
